Wellness in the Workspace

The time has come for our lovely team at Embryo that every Operations Manager, Office Manager, Managing Director, Executive assistant dreads organising… An office relocation.

Yes you heard it, I won’t give you the ‘we’re growing’ line (as I’m sure you’ve seen that a lot from us having gone from 6-16 this year) but the time has come where our current office space officially looks like a game of desk dominos. So we’re stepping it up a notch by being on the hunt for a brand new swanky office space in Manchester.

What do you think of when I say digital marketing agency office space?

  • Colourful bean bags?
  • Standing desks?
  • Ping pong table? (Guilty)
  • Office slides?
  • An office full of dogs? (Also guilty)

However,  instead of thinking about how we can make our office the ‘quirkiest’ or the most ‘creative’ I want to think about ways that we can utilise the office space to help enhance staff productivity and improve our health and wellbeing. More and more research is showing that modern work environments can have a negative impact on your mental wellbeing. Recent statistics show that 12.7% of all sickness absence days in the UK can be attributed to mental health conditions, what I want to know is how can create an office space that can help reduce this (even if it is by the smallest percentage drop)?

Wellness Wednesday

If you’ve worked in an SEO & PPC agency before, you will know just how fast-paced things can be! All of a sudden you can be onboarding 5 clients in one day who all want their campaigns to start yesterday, we then be the agile team that we are and get their campaigns scheduled into our workflows asap to get the ball rolling. Before you know it it’s reporting week and you need to do 50+ reports within a week and follow them all up the week after.

All of the fast-paced (yet exciting) madness can be quite overwhelming sometimes and it’s important that we don’t let ourselves burn out or become overworked.  To help prevent this from happening, one thing I’d like to add to our new office 2020 space is ‘Wellness Wednesday’. Each week employees will have the opportunity to add an inspirational quote / positive client points of the week to a wellness jar or a wellness wall for everyone to see.

Positivity in the office is really important, your team is only as strong as your weakest link so keeping the energy levels up and motivating each other can go a long way!

Fruit deliveries & Breakfast smoothies

Whilst you’ve propped your wellness jar on your wellness station, another lovely office perk to have in your workspace is a fruit delivery! Getting a weekly fruit basket delivered is a great way to get your employees staying healthy and keeping focused. You can also get really creative and do weekly breakfast smoothie making with the team! Here’s one of our personal favourites at Embryo:

  • 1 banana
  • coconut water
  • 1 scoop of peanut butter
  • 1-2 handfuls of spinach

Then blend to your ideal consistency! Get a fresh air coffee pick-me-up

If you’ve been to visit us at Embryo before, you will know that we are all obsessed with our coffee beans. One of our team members is always shouting ‘bean to cup anybody?’ To which the Embryo choir responds ‘YESSSSSS ME ME ME!’

In the centre of Manchester, there are loads of really cute coffee shops, so why not have a set time for you and your team to take a walk outside for the coffee run? Have a change of scenery for your team/client meeting for a change so that you can come back into the office all refreshed! This is certainly going to be something we’re going to take advantage of.

On the topic of coffee, if you would like to pop in and meet our team to enjoy a hot mug of bean to cup then contact us today on 0161 327 263. We would love to hear all about your business and how we can help grow your digital presence.
