4 Reasons You Should Be Using Reels

Since Instagram introduced Reels on 5th August 2020, it has become one of the app’s most popular features. Many believe Reels was introduced as a (rather unoriginal) response to the huge growth of TikTok, in an attempt to keep the interest of young people and creators. However it has proved to be much more than that, and an essential tool for Instagram growth.

1.Instagram is prioritising Reels

So why should your business be using Reels? Instagram is shining the spotlight on Reels in an attempt to encourage more users to use their new feature. Instagram redesigned its home screen to put Reels front and centre and Reels have become a key frontier for organic reach on the app. The more people you reach with your Reels, the higher your chances that follower count and engagement rate will grow.

Users that have jumped on the bandwagon early have seen an increase in both followers and engagement on the app, just through posting Reels regularly. One user, in particular, claimed to have gained 2,800 new followers in a month.

2.Reels can attract new customers

Although at the moment Reels are focused on growing your reach and improving brand awareness, there is nothing stopping you from turning this new audience into customers. Reels are a great way to reach new people and have gained a reputation of increasing followers, but in order to transform these followers into paying customers, you need to be creating content that is specific to the audience you want to attract and their needs. For example, if you’re a website designer, you could create a Reel where you’ll talk about the do’s and don’t of website design.

It also pays to be in tune with what’s trending on TikTok and in Reels. Adding popular audio to your video or following a trend is an easy way to increase your reach even more. Creating a video that incorporates a trend as well as focussing on your service or product is a great way to attract new customers.

3.Reels can be monetised

Following on from point 2, there are multiple ways that you can make money from these new followers.

One of the main benefits to the increase in engagement and followers you will get is that your Page Engager remarketing audiences will see an increase too, meaning that people that have liked or commented on your reels are now in your sales funnel and you can target ads to them, directing them straight to your website.

Earlier this year Instagram launched shopping on Reels, allowing Businesses and creators to be able to tag products when they create Reels, and viewers can tap through those tags to buy or save them through the app.

It won’t be long either until we start to see Reels incorporated into the Facebook Ads placement strategy. There has already been testing of this idea in the past few months. Soon, it’s expected that businesses will be able to advertise using Reels content and will be able to clearly track conversions that come from Reels.

4. Reels can showcase your business

Social media is less about traditional, hard-sell marketing, and more about communication and building connections with your audience. Reels is a great tool to showcase your business’s values and personality. Using Reels to craft a tone of voice that resonates with your audience is a great way to build these relationships.

Reels are also a great way to educate your audience. They offer a fresh approach to highlight what makes your business unique. Utilising creative video techniques and trends to show how your products work, whether it’s a behind the scenes glimpse into your business, product demonstration or even a Q&A video, you are creating engaging content that your audience will want to watch.
